Beauty Tip #9 How to Choose the Best Mascara

After years of working at the make up counter, I've noticed  one  of the questions that's asked most often is "what's your best mascara?".  To most people, this may seem like a logical and simple question. But to a professional make up artist, this is not a question that gets a quick "one size fits all" answer.

So how do you know what's the best mascara?  Here are 3 pointers to assist you.

Beauty Tip #8 Thoroughly Remove Make up Around the Hairline

It's very important to make sure that you remove all make up when cleansing your skin.  You also need to make sure you get the area around your hairline.  Why? Overtime, build up of make up, dirt, oil, and make up remover will occur and it will look as though you have flaky skin or dandruff.  Thoroughly cleanse and rinse before drying off to prevent this from happening. :-)

Beauty Tip #7 Use Essential Oils

Do you want a more natural alternative to your skin care and make up? Try incorporating Essential Oils.  My favorites are Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, and Grapeseed Oil.   I purchase these from the Vitamin Shop, but they are also available at Whole Foods Grocery Store and other natural/holistic stores.  

Here are my top 3 ways to use Essential Oils in your regular routine.

1. Make Up Remover.  Jojoba Oil is fantastic for removing make up.  Just a tiny bit goes a long way.  It works to get rid of the toughest eye make up without burning my eyes.  This would be similar to using M.A.C. Cleanse Off Oil, which actually contains some Jojoba oil.  

Beauty Tip #6 Cosmetic Counter Sanitation

Even though most workers try their best to keep the products as clean as possible, they can't watch customers 24/7.  It's important for you to take your own precautions when trying on products.  

Below are my Top 5 Cosmetic Counter Sanitation Tips.

1. NEVER pick up a product and apply it directly to your skin!!  You should always sanitize the products first.  Even if you use a disposable wand or sponge, the actual product should be cleaned first.  
2. Do not "double dip" in liquid products.  This would include but not limited to mascara and lipgloss.  Always use fresh disposables to apply these products.

Make Up Remover Wipes...The search continues with Kroger's Grocery Store Pt. 2

I wasn't able to find a picture of the Kroger brand wipes on the Kroger website,  I purchased these for $2.15.  They are supposed to be comparable to Neutrogena Make Up Remover Wipes which were $5.99. (Which I guess wasn't too bad since they retail for $6.49 on the official website.)

Make Up Remover Wipes...The search continues with Kroger's Grocery Store Pt 1.

I've posted a few times on make up remover wipes and how I'm still on the hunt for the perfect ones.  So far, the Ponds Towelettes above are my favorite.  To get more info on my experiences with make up remover wipes you can check here,  here, and here. 

My latest experiment was with Mirra Renew Exfoliating Cleansing Cloths and the generic Kroger Make-Up Remover Cleansing Towelettes. I purchased both of these from Kroger's Grocery Store.

M.A.C. Glitter and Ice Event at Dillard’s

I'm super late on posting this, but I definitely wanted to get it out before the year ended. The M.A.C. Glitter and Ice collection launched on 10/27/11.  This event was held Thursday  12/2/11 through Sunday 12/4/11.  It was a lot of fun.  This was a Level A event which meant we had live models as well as make-over sessions.

Fun Holiday Lashes

I forgot to post Merry Christmas on this blog so I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas.  I pray that you receive peace, joy, and many blessings.

This was a look created by my counter manager for us to look festive during the VIP Night at Dillards to promote the M.A.C. Glitter and Ice Collection.  This would also be fun to pull off for New Year's Eve.

Beauty Tip #5 Removing Eye Make Up

Do your eyes get irritated after removing your make up?

Maybe it's the way you remove it.  Instead of rubbing hard back and forth really fast to get the make up off, try holding down the pad, cotton ball, or wipe (whatever you use ha ha!) on your eye then wipe off.  This will allow the make up remover to actually dissolve the make up and it will take it off quicker.  Your eyes will not feel as sore afterwards. :-)

Beauty Tip #4 Use Eye Moisturizers

It's very important to take care of your eye area.  The area around our eyes tends to be a lot drier than the rest of our face.  This area also has less layers of skin.  For this reason, it's very beneficial for you to use an eye moisturizer 2x/day keep it healthy and to reduce the appearance of concerns such as dark circles, wrinkles, and puffiness.  There are also serums that are helpful in treating eye area concerns.

I will be starting a new series of Blog Posts specifically geared towards beauty tips for my readers. These posts will provide pointers on ways to enhance your make up applications.

I'm very open when it comes to make up.  I can respect other's creativity and appreciate them for going against what most may feel as the "norm".  I believe that  individuality is important and I respect the way people express themselves through their make up looks, therefore I will not say what's a right or wrong way.  I will give tips to provide options on how you can enhance your natural beauty and give ideas on executing looks. :-)

Do You Use Make Up To Treat Your Skin Concerns?

With the thousands of cosmetics out there, it can be overwhelming to figure out the best routine for you.  Most people will try to find a way to condense their time in the mornings.  There's nothing wrong with this, just make sure that you don't skip skin care.

These days you can find foundations that have all types of added benefits besides just evening out the skin and providing coverage.  There are foundations (liquids, powders, and creams) that work to add hydration to the skin, absorb oil, protect against sun damage, as well as reduce appearance of lines, wrinkles, and pores.  These foundations should be seen as bonuses, not replacements for a good skin care regimen.

When in doubt stick to the basic 3 ways to take care of your skin. #1 Cleanse, #2 Exfoliate, and #3 Moisturize.

Most people don't pay attention to the packing of their cosmetics.  There's a lot of important info written on there that you should be familiar with.  Ingredients and expirations are at the top of the list.

I learned how to understand labels and packaging while working for Clinique.  It was important for us to educate our customers on what was in the products as well as when to throw them out and buy new ones.  If you look on your boxes it will tell the whether or not the product is recyclable, where to get further info on the product that wasn't listed on the packaging, and how long the shelf life is for the product after opening it.    Please see below
